Freestanding display units (FSDUs) are
personalised display points used in store to promote specific products.
Kingfisher produce FSDU’s by a combination of digital print and
cardboard engineering. FSDU’s can be designed in such a way as to
be delivered flat packed for assembly in store.
Assembly comes complete with instructions and is usually very quick
with fixings including Velcro or plastic nuts and bolts. The
FSDU’s highlighted were designed for CD and football display and
were designed in house by Kingfisher’s design department. The
combination of fluted display board and UV print provide an

Suzuki car dealer FSDU project
The simplest methods are often the best but a lot of
experience goes into providing suitable print solutions for point of
sale FSDU requirements. In the example above fluted display board
was used to
create POS / FSDU towers standing nearly 2 metres tall. The four sided
towers were printed on a UV flatbed printing press in two sections with
a slot and tab system enabling the sides to lock together to form the
four sided tower. Highly stable and light to move, these cardboard FSDU
towers are a powerful method of advertising for short term promotions.
Fluted board was used in this point of sale FSDU project to provide
the strength for each face of the tower to remain rigid. Special
attention was given to the direction of the flute which is essential in
providing a stable structure. Printing the FSDU in one piece was not
practical for board size reasons and for packaging. The UV flatbed
printing process allows for high quality full colour print. The ink is
instantly dried during the print and curing process allowing for the
board to be cut and creased on a computerised cutting table. Once cut
and creased it’s into the custom made cardboard packaging box
ready for despatch.
